The Old Girls’ School has recently received a very generous grant of over £223,000 from the National Lottery Fund. This will help to restore the school to be used for the general public in a variety of ways. To celebrate this brilliant news, the Old Girls’ School is having a photo shoot to recreate an old historic image taken at the school. The committee wants to recreate this picture with as many people who attended the school to be featured in it, to produce a ‘then and now’ scenario. The photo shoot will be outside the Old Girls School on Kirkgate at 10.30am on Saturday, 28th September.
The school which opened its doors way back in 1874, educated infants and girls until its closure in 1978. The Old Girls’ School is a beautiful part of Sherburn’s History and volunteers have worked extremely hard to preserve its heritage over the years. Now with this amazing grant, they can achieve their restoration goals and help keep the integrity of the school.
