The Fairburn Singers – Sing and Swing into Summer

The first concert of the year on 6 April at Selby Abbey was a roof-raising occasion. Alongside Castleford Choral Society, The Fairburn Singers sang to an audience of hundreds, with a programme of different musical styles, the 2nd half being a joint performance of John Rutter’s Feel The Spirit.

2019 once again saw the choir at the Pontefract Music Festival held in March. There was stiff opposition from The Chordsmiths, but we were still awarded Distinctions in both Light Music and Mixed Voice Choir categories, and retained our 2 trophies – thanks to our professional Musical Director and Accompanist.

As always, we sing for fun and to improve our performance, but we also raise money so that we can donate to charities at Christmas. This year our 2 chosen charities are The Prince of Wales Hospice, Pontefract and Cancer Research UK.

Dates for your diary 2019

It’s set to be a summer of singing (from The Fairburn Singers) and swinging (by Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra). The two come together on 29 June at 7.30 pm for a concert at St Giles’ Church in Pontefract. Our guests are a lively, and very talented, group of young people who perform as a Big Band playing Swing Music. Tickets are £10, refreshments included. It should be a night to remember!

Fairburn Summer Concert, is on Monday 1 July at 7.30 pm in the Community Centre at Fairburn. There will be the usual mixture of music and fun, plus a great raffle and fantastic refreshments. The price is again £7 and you can pay on the door.

You may notice the concerts are earlier this summer. This is because we need to practise for our 3rd Choir Cruise – sailing down the River Seine to Rouen and back to Honfleur and return to Dover – on 23 August.

For any further information, please ring our Concert Secretary, Terry Rowley, on 07821603221 or e-mail Terry will be happy to discuss the ticket availability and venue information on any of the above, as well as organising any concerts you may wish to book, or for the Choir to sing at a wedding or memorial service (see or follow us on Facebook).
