A Festive Afternoon at The Old Girls School

The Old Girls’ School Community Centre staff and Committee were overwhelmed with the response to their first fund raising event since opening the building for community use in September. They would like to thank everyone who attended the Craft & Carols event on Saturday 8th December.

There was a great selection of local craft stalls, a raffle, refreshments were being served (including seasonal mulled punch and mince pies) and Sanata’s Grotto proved very popular.

Allyson Chambers (Chair of the Friends and the Management Committees) explained “we had a fantastic response to an advert for local crafters/traders requesting a stall – and sadly some had to be declined a space as we just couldn’t fit any more in!! Staff and committee members worked hard to put the Christmas decorations up and transform one of the rooms into Santa’s Grotto. It was such a fun event and we would like to thank everyone who came along to support us. We would also like to thank Santa and the Gala Queen (Shannon) for helping Santa distribute the presents, and also the Beavers and Scouts for their performance of Carols.”

The Friends committee will be meeting early in January to discuss future fund raising events for 2019. Allyson explained – we want to arrange a variety of events to suit all ages. We would also like to remind people that the rooms are available to hire. Please call the centre manager – Sarah Kay – for price details or to arrange a viewing. All sorts of occasions can be catered for.

Also, Dawn Jacques from The Little Teapot Tearoom can be available for any catering needs within the School.
