A Thank You to Local Volunteers

Some of the volunteers from the local area (of which there are over 100!) were invited to a thank you event at Eversley Park Centre on Friday 17th September. The event recognised and thanked people for all their efforts and hard work supporting the local community during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Not only were there some of the local volunteers at the event, but there was also some local businesses and various local councillors.

Among the local businesses at the event was Arc Workwear, who recently received a gold award at the Selby District Council Community Awards for ‘a local business that has made a difference to your community in 2020’.

Tom Jenkinson, Local Manager for Stronger Communities North Yorkshire County Council, presented a special plaque to Mick Hawes, the Volunteer Manager for Sherburn Coronavirus Aid Group (SCAG).

The plaque read:

‘Thank you! For your courage, kindness, and community spirit during the Coronavirus pandemic.

We’ve got through this together, thanks to the strength of our communities.

Presented to the people of Sherburn in Elmet and surrounding villages on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council and partners in the Summer of 2021.’

A light meal was provided, and there was entertainment by local singers Patrick McGarry and Leanne Jeffers. Local councillors also made some tributes and speeches to thank everyone for their efforts.

It was a very enjoyable evening had by all of those that attended, with lots of food, fun and dancing to celebrate everyone’s hard work.
