Sherburn in Elmet is set to receive a new village development of 30 affordable Stonewater homes. House prices will start at £53,200 for a 40% share in a two-bedroom house. The houses will be for low-cost rent and shared ownership, which is part of Strata’s new 120- home development at Carousel Walk in Sherburn in Elmet.
There will be a mixture of two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses of which, 19 will be available for rent and 11 available for shared ownership. These houses are being built for local people with a connection to the area. The energy-efficient, gardened properties have been delivered in partnership with Selby District Council and housebuilders, Strata.
This new development comes as part of an urgent need for affordable homes in rural communities such as Sherburn in Elmet. It has been found that local people, especially younger groups, are being forced out of the area because they can’t afford the housing that is currently available in the village.
Currently, a typical house in the Selby area is over seven times (£212,627*) the average local salary, and private rents are almost a quarter (24.4%) of take-home pay.
