British Gypsum Donates £5,000 to Local School

Local business, British Gypsum continually supports the Sherburn in Elmet community.  This year we have seen the manufacturing business sponsoring the Craft & Food Festival, donating toys to the Elmet Lions Toy Appeal and even purchasing the local village Christmas tree.  Today, British Gypsum donated £5,000 to Athelstan Primary School.

Lynn Hudson, Secretary to the Plant Manager at British Gypsum, stated:

“We were aware that Athelstan Primary School was extending the building to meet the growing demand of new students within the area and as a result, we decided to meet with Karen O’Donnell, Head Teacher at Athelstan Primary School to discuss how British Gypsum could help assist the school with the new expansion.  Karen explained to us that the school had revamped one of the rooms and turned it into a library but they were in need of books.  We went to see the new library and instantly knew this is what we wanted to help the school with.  As a result, we decided to donate £5,000 towards new books and essential equipment for the library.”

The donation comes as part of British Gypsum’s 100-year anniversary celebration to which they have decided to donate £10,000 in total to local community projects within the Sherburn in Elmet Village.

Karen O’Donnell, Head Teacher at Athelstan Primary School, stated:

“Amazing contribution from British Gypsum.  It’s great that a local firm is providing support to a local school.  This money will provide resources for our children that we couldn’t have hoped to facilitate at this time.”
