Free parking in December returns to support Selby businesses

Free parking in Council car parks in Selby has been announced in the run up to Christmas.

The district council’s car parks will be free all day in Selby on Saturday 4 December, Saturday 11 December and Saturday 18 December. This supports local businesses at this busy time of year.

The leader of the Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said: “I encourage our residents to consider their local independent businesses when doing their Christmas shopping this year.

“Retailers across the district have worked hard to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and make their premises safe and secure. We have a really fantastic range of retailers in our district who I hope residents will support at this busy time of year.”

This year over the Christmas period there are no changes to waste and recycling collections for the district’s residents. However as usual garden waste collections stop over the festive period so there will be no collections from Friday 17 December. Garden waste collections will restart from Tuesday 4 January.

The Council’s phone lines and non-essential services will close on Christmas Eve at 12 noon and reopen on Tuesday 4 January. The Council will focus on providing emergency services for people who need them most in the period between Christmas and New Year. This covers things like emergency housing repairs or homelessness support.  For emergency incidents only the number to call is 01653 600941.

The Council’s online services are unaffected and can be accessed 24 hours a day.  Make online payments and find out further information about our services here.
