Last summer, Year 8 students from Sherburn High School, Luke Hebbron, Josh Bradley and a small group (Ice Warriors Return), took part in a competition organised by North Yorkshire Police. Luke, Josh and the boys had to plan, organise and complete a project within their local community of Sherburn in Elmet. The boys worked with the Prevention services, PCSOs, councillors, local businesses and members of the community, to clean and make safe the community garden. For their efforts, they won an Argos gift voucher and trampoline park vouchers but the boys were also entered into a National competition called Crimebeat where they attended workshops; working around the importance of community, team work and hard work. The students all had an amazing time doing this, as a result of the hard work they put in during their summer holidays, they were shortlisted to attend the National Crimebeat Awards ceremony!
Lots of teams from around the country entered the competition and the finalists were invited to a ceremony in London. Luke, Josh and their friends were North Yorkshire’s finalists. The boys came third overall and won £500 to spend on further projects within our community. As part of their prize they got to tour London on an open top bus and go on the London eye. All students had a fantastic trip and can’t wait to do something worthwhile in and for the community with the money they won.
