On 10th and 11th July, Sherburn High School’s new Year 7 students completed ‘Adventures of English’ as part of their transition into life at high school. Parents and Carers were invited to join the new cohort in getting to grips with Shakespeare and to learn a little about how lessons are delivered in order to get a taste for secondary English.
Through role play, students interviewed William Shakespeare’s father John, explored the language, life and times of the Bard and considered why we still study Shakespeare today. Students were given the opportunity to play the witches from Macbeth and were treated to a fantastic performance of Macbeth by some of the Year 10 drama students.
One parent said “It was a fabulous morning seeing children, teachers and parents interacting”, another commented “I enjoyed the insight into what the students do at High School; There was good interaction between groups. The staff made it fun for all, as well as interesting and were very knowledgeable.”
English Teacher Laura Sparrow said, “It was an absolute pleasure to see so many parents and carers supporting learning and engaging with the tasks. There was a great buzz and we look forward to welcoming parents to future events in English.”
