British Gypsum, the UK’s leading manufacturer of interior lining systems have donated £5,000 to The Friends of the Old Girls’ School.

The donation comes as part of British Gypsum’s 100-year anniversary celebration to which they have decided to donate £10,000 in total to local community projects within the Sherburn in Elmet Village.

The Friends of the Old Girls’ School recently received funding to the tune of £223,210 when they successfully received their bid from the Big Lotteries Fund.

The Old Girls’ School will be turned into a Community Centre and their recent grant will see a brand new Tearoom that will open out onto their fantastic garden area which was created with the help of the grant from Tesco Bags of Help.

With the £5,000 donated by British Gypsum, The Friends of the Old Girls’ School will be able to purchase new front doors as the old ones had severely deteriorated due to weathering and age.

There is a lot of work required to make the building safe and secure for public use.  Refurbishment works are planned to start before Christmas replacing the School’s windows with the main refurbishment project taking place in January 2018.
