In the early hours of this morning a fire was ablaze at Sherburn High School. Firefighters have been working through the night to fight the blaze at the school off Garden Lane. The fire could be seen from around the village and lit up the sky.
It is thought to have been in the changing block area but is unlikely to have spread and damaged the whole school. Information is still coming through and further updates will follow.
The school will be closed today and obviously the damage will need to be assessed in daylight.
For pupils at the school they will be contacted and messages sent out directly from the school in due course.
