The Osgoldcross and Elmet Rotary are very proud to be supporting Sherburn Hungate Primary School with the renovation of their overgrown Wildlife Area, to create a usable space which would provide:
- An area of peace and relaxation
- An area of performance and storytelling
- An area to connect students to where food comes from and the magic of growing from seeds.
- An area to connect students to wildlife.
The garden aims to help the children connect and learn about nature and animals, as well as having a calming place they can relax in.
One exciting part of the project will be to build a plastic bottle greenhouse. This will help to teach the children the values and benefits in recycling and how you can re-use plastics to good use.
The idea for this project started after a recent visit to Hungate School by the Rotary Club where they presented year 5 with pictorial dictionaries, which the Rotary Club do each year. Chairman of the club, June had a tour of the school grounds. One area which stood out, for the wrong reasons was a patch called the wildflower garden which was overgrown and out of bounds for the children. June wanted to help renovate this area but has also appealed for other organisations to help with this wonderful project.
Things need for the project are as follows:
- 2-litre plastic bottles
- Reclaimed bricks
- Cement
- Sand (sharp)
- Ballast
- Timber (treated)
- Pallets
- Garden Canes
- Decking
- PVC pond liner
- Scaffolding boards
- Tools
- Garden bits
