Community Volunteer Awards Night 2019

On Friday night, the local volunteers from around the village gathered at the Swan public house in Sherburn to celebrate the great volunteering that has taken place in the area. During the Sherburn Community Volunteer Awards 2019, many awards were handed over to worthy individuals and groups and lots of incredibly inspiring stories were told over the evening.

The 100 Club awards evening was organised by Councillor David Brook, the founder of the 100 Club which is an initiative where local businesses become members to the club and their donations are fed through the scheme, back into the local community. The aim of the awards was to recognise volunteers for going an extra mile to support the wider community and say thank you.

Running for its second year due to the success of last years’ event and the interest and support within the community, the 2019 awards were well attended and equally a success.

David thanked Kathleen Booth for hosting the event, Les Liddle for taking the photographs and to helpers of the event Caroline Comer Stone, Allyson Chambers, Jayne Brodie, Carole Long, Amanda Alderson and Lianne Lazenby.

One of the highlights of the evening included a video message from Ben Stokes, the England World Cup hero who congratulated Barrie Beal for his life time achievement award in recognition of his services to the Sherburn Cricket Club.
