Sherburn High School was delighted to welcome Doctor Simon Bulley, Academic Clinical Fellow in Haematology and Admissions Tutor for Cambridge University, who gave up his day off to talk to Year 10, 11 and Sixth Form students about how to apply to Oxbridge. Dr. Bulley gave students invaluable advice about what to include in a personal statement and the interview process in order to be successful. Students fired questions at the Doctor about courses, campuses, lectures, tutorials and of course the all-important social life and sports clubs! Dr. Bulley’s tutorial was extremely inspirational, especially when he spoke of student life and the prospect of attending one of the top universities in the world, in addition to the doors that would be opened with regard to career paths.
Head of Sixth Form, Dan Kirby commented “We are really lucky at Sherburn High School to have such close connections with both Oxford and Cambridge universities. It was a really valuable and unique opportunity for students to find out about what university life is like, what’s required to study medicine and also debunking myths about Oxbridge. We’re also grateful for the interview advice and guidance he has given to our year 13 students who are applying to Oxbridge this year. It evidences yet again how ambitious and aspirational we are for the students in our Sixth form community. Sometimes, they just don’t realise how brilliant they are and what they can achieve!”.
