Residents of Selby District are encouraged to be local tourists for the weekend

Selby District’s very first residents’ engagement festival is taking place on 16th & 17th October 2021, with a number of offers, one time only experiences, activities and events for residents to enjoy.

Organised by Selby District Council’s Culture and Visitor Economy Team, the ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ festival is all about showcasing the varied and quality offer available across the whole of the district and encouraging residents to explore. The festival includes offers, special events, guided tours, behind the scenes experiences, family entertainment, live music & more. It will be a great time for residents to discover what the district has to offer as a destination.

Councillor Tim Grogan, Selby District Council Executive Member with responsibility for Health and Culture, said:

“As a district we offer a warm and genuine welcome, as well as authentic and exciting product. The aim of our very first residents’ engagement festival is to showcase the wide range of activities and experiences available across the district and to encourage our residents to explore them.

“There are some fantastic offers and one-off experiences available, for our residents to enjoy over the weekend, as well as live music and family entertainment in each of our three towns.

“The district’s very own Cray Bakes will even be creating a special ‘Heart of Yorkshire’ brownie that will be available at the Selby Farmer and Craft market on the Saturday, so I would really encourage our residents to spend time in our district, ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ and really discover what we have to offe
r.”

Grace Chapman, Selby District Visitor Economy Advisory Board Member and Community Engagement Officer of Selby Abbey, said:

“Now, more than ever, is a time for local discovery and the ‘Get To Know Your Own Heart’ residents’ engagement festival will inspire and encourage residents to learn more about their district and explore their own doorstep.”

“We’re very excited to be offering after hours and family tours for the first time, as part of the festival. It’s a fantastic chance for residents and locals to come along, experience the Abbey – and see it in a whole different light.”
