Sherburn in Elmet Community Larder

Services aim to support individuals and families facing food insecurity. From non-perishable goods to essential hygiene products, they strive to meet the basic needs of their community members.

In October 2024 a group of local residents created the Sherburn in Elmet Community Larder (SIECL), in order to help alleviate food poverty within the town. Working together as a charity (Registered Charity No. 1211204) SIECL could provide a service that was regrettably not present in Sherburn.

Purpose as a charity is to help those who are struggling with food by providing a weekly foodbank-style service. Giving out cupboard goods, household goods, and hygiene products. They also have the provision where they can signpost people who are in need, to other services that are best placed to help them.

Whilst they don’t currently offer perishable goods, they are hoping that by making this start they can build up to offering that as part of their core service.

Due to being a small charity, they operate with a tight-knit team of volunteers, on a small scale. That means that when people access their service, they are given a tick-list of items that they can choose from. This is then sent to their storage facility to be made and brought up, whilst their customers can sit and have a cup of tea or coffee.

Donations
Tins and non-perishables are greatly appreciated. Also accept essential household items.
