During the Tour de Yorkshire in April last year, Sherburn held an event called ‘Sherburn Cycle Saturday’ to celebrate the race. People came into the village in their thousands to watch the competition, many watching at the top of Sir Johns Lane, as the race came into Sherburn. This area was filled with spectators, many of whom rang symbolic cow bells, supplied by the scouts, as the bikes passed. The atmosphere was so great filled with noise and laughter – and the area soon became known as cowbell corner. A plaque with the name ‘Cow Bell Corner’ has now been placed on the corner of Sir Johns Lane, to commemorate the enjoyment of such a fantastic day.
