Plans to transform the former NatWest Bank into a Fish and Chip takeaway have been passed, and planning can go ahead. The building has been empty for over 2 years, and will now become the 2nd fish and chip shop in the village, despite some villagers opposing to the plans. There were around 50 objections and 12 supporting comments to the council. Councillors and villagers both have concerns that the village is being overtaken by takeaways, with this being the 10th food outlet in Sherburn (11 if Domino’s also gets passed). Whilst some are concerned and upset about the new fish and chip shop, others are looking forward to the new addition to the village. In its past, Sherburn had 3 successful fish and chip shops, and now in the coming months the village will have 2 to choose from.
