The Friends of the Old Girls’ School has received another donation for the amount of £10,000 from local company, G W Sissons & Sons. The Friends of the Old Girls’ School have received various donations over the past year from local companies, which shows the local businesses’ continuous support for the new community centre.
G W Sissons & Sons is a transport, warehousing and property development company located at Sissons House, Sherburn in Elmet that has been operating for over 120 years.
Managing Director of G W Sissons & Sons, Bryan Sissons spoke about why the donation was given:
We are the oldest trading company in the village. Myself, my bother and my father all went to the Old Girl’s School when it was was a Girls’ and Infants School previously. As a result, we thought it was time to donate some funds to the cause to help get the school back in use for the community.
Bryan went on to state:
I think what the Friends of the Old Girls’ School is doing is a great cause and turning the old school into a community centre will be a useful amenity to have in the village.
With G W Sissons & Sons’ generous donation of £10,000, the Old Girls’ School will be able to purchase two new boilers for the school. This comes as a big relief as they were previously concerned at how the school’s building would cope being empty throughout another long wet and cold winter.
