The Friends of the Old Girls’ School are overjoyed to announce they have been successful in their bid for National Lottery Funding to the tune of £223,210. The plans can now move forward to renovate the School building and make it secure over the winter.
This money is a fantastic achievement and will help significantly with the restoration plans. The committee would like to thank everyone who has been fundraising and supporting the project so far and is very excited to see how the school will come along.
Allyson Chambers had this to say:
As Chair, I speak on behalf of the Friends of the Old Girls’ School Committee, that we are all high delighted that we have been granted this funding. After securing the lease from NYCC in April, we have been working towards gaining some funds to refurbish the School and get it open for the community use that we had always intended. There is a lot of work required to make the building safe and secure for public use, but now we can see “a light at the end of the tunnel”. We hope to have the School open in Spring 2018. I would like to thank all of the committee members for their commitment to this project and the work they put in. It will be an exciting day when we finally open. We have already had quite a few enquiries for use of the School, but we will be making further announcements on how people can make bookings in the next few months.
