Keir Mather MP celebrates Christmas card competition winner with trip to Parliament

This year Keir Mather MP hosted his annual Christmas card competition, open to all primary
school children in our local area. The theme for the competition was ‘Santa stops in Selby and
Kippax’.
The winner, 9 year old Gethin Clements from Sherburn, travelled down to Parliament with his
family to meet with the Speaker of the House of Commons, The Right Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle
MP, and to get a tour of the Palace of Westminster from Keir Mather MP. During the trip, Gethin
got the opportunity to place his design, a hand drawn scene of Santa’s sleigh over Selby Abbey,
on the Parliamentary Christmas tree.

The return travel to Parliament was kindly provided by Hull Trains, who helped to make Gethin’s
trip extra special.
Speaking of the day, Keir Mather MP said “It was wonderful to welcome Gethin and his family to
Parliament and show them around.
He added “I want to send a huge thank you to all local children who took the time to part in my
competition this year. I’m so delighted with the winning design which showcases our brilliant
Abbey. I’d like to wish all across Selby and Kippax the very best wishes for the Christmas
season!”
Competition winner Gethin Clements said “It was a wonderful trip to London, I’ll never forget it!”
