The ‘Friends of the Old Girls’ school group are celebrating after receiving a £12,000 grant. A group of Sherburn residents have come together to help transform the Old Girls’ School on Kirkgate, and recently took part in the Tesco Bags for Help scheme, to help raise money and awareness of the great cause. The scheme allows shoppers to vote for worthy causes through a 5p bag levy, one of the causes which was nominated was the Old Girl School Project.
With the support of the local Tesco Express, and the Sherburn residents, the grant was awarded to the scheme, and now plans can begin to transform the building into a community facility for the village. This is hoping to include rooms to hire for functions, and a beautiful community garden, which they are aiming to open in the summer.
