Police stop motorist using streets as rat runs

Several drivers were stopped and cautioned last week for using the village streets as a rat run. Sherburn residents have been in battle with the council against cars using streets such as Wolsey Croft and Fairways and Pastures as cut-throughs to get around the village. These rat runs are used to avoid the traffic lights in the village centre – despite clear ‘access only’ signs on the entrances of Wolsey Croft. Last week police handed out over 50 warnings to drivers who were using Wolsey Croft to cut through. If the issues carry on, fines will be introduced. Police are continuing to monitor the situation, and urge people to not use this street as a rat run to avoid a penalty.
