Proposed 40mph Speed Limit to Sherburn Bypass

PROPOSED creation of 40mph SPEED LIMIT: Sherburn in Elmet – A162 and B1222
North Yorkshire Council as the Highway Authority for North Yorkshire considers that it is expedient
to make the Traffic Regulation Order on one or more of the grounds contained in Section 1 of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as indicated below:

  1. For avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road, or for preventing the
    likelihood of any such danger arising,
  2. for improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs,
    The proposal seeks to achieve the following:
    A162, Sherburn in Elmet
  • The creation of a 40mph speed limit from the southern exit of the roundabout with the
    A162/B1222/Moor Lane, Sherburn in Elmet south for 316m and from the northern exit of
    the roundabout with the A162/B1222/Moor Lane, Sherburn in Elmet north for 330m. The
    existing 60mph speed limit is inappropriate with regards to the level of commercial
    development and characteristics of the road.
  • The proposals are illustrated on Plan A162, SIE – 40mph
    B1222, Sherburn in Elmet
  • The creation of a 40mph speed limit from the eastern exit of the roundabout with the A162,
    Sherburn in Elmet for 2021m. The existing 60mph speed limit is inappropriate with regard to
    the level of commercial development and characteristics of the road.
  • The proposals are illustrated on Plan B1222, SIE – 40mph

A copy of the draft Order, together with a map showing the roads affected and a statement of the
Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected at County Hall, Northallerton
and at Sherburn & Villages Community Library, Finkle Hill, Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds LS25 6EA during
normal office hours from 15th February 2024 to 7th March 2024 and also viewed online at
www.northyorks.gov.uk/roadworks-map or www.northyorks.gov.uk/traffic-regulation-orders.
