Residents are Cycling the Somme

Two local Sherburn residents, Clare and Christine are taking part in the ‘Ride to the Somme’ at the end of August. ‘Ride to the Somme’ will commemorate the cycling soldiers that fought and fell during the Battle of the Somme in 1916 as we ride over 200 miles in 2.5 days.

Both Christine and Clare live on the ‘Old Airbase’ at Church Fenton. They both have disabilities including chronic and acute pain as well as fatigue, so this is a huge challenge for them both. The charity they are cycling for is SSAFA (Armed forces charity). SSAFA’s support covers both Regulars and Reserves in the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service. They are all entitled to lifelong support from the charity, no matter how long they have served.

They are contacting local businesses in the hope that their company may consider supporting them and this amazing charity through sponsorship. In return, they will wear the company logo on our cycle wear, your company name/logo will then have a percentage of assigned space depending on your donation.
