Sherburn in Elmet Community Trust have been successful with their application for Co-op Local Community Fund’s bid and plans can officially move forward to bring a community cinema into the village. The plan is to create a public cinema at The Old Girls School on Kirkgate, suitable for all ages, showing a wide variety of films and genres. The bid will help the Community Trust create screens, provide seating and help with the costs of films and licences.
The latest round of Co-op Local Community Fund is now open – which includes the Sherburn Community Cinema scheme. This means that Co-op members can choose to give 1% of what they spend on Co-op branded products and services to this fantastic cause! Sign in to your membership account to opt in for the Sherburn Community Cinema. The Co-op give 1% of their turnover to local causes.
A Community Cinema will allow regular weekly showings of a range of films, from recent films to classics and also niche films for special interest groups. They also intend to offer a weekly screening during the day which would offer a film and lunch for a very reasonable price. This would help reduce social isolation giving people a chance to meet up and chat.
