At the Parish Council meeting on the 17th October the proposal for a clock to commemorate Sherburn Cycle Saturday (when the Tour de Yorkshire passed through Sherburn) was discussed. No certainty has been achieved regarding the siting of the clock and it seemed likely that the funds available would not cover all the costs. An application for a grant was started in the name of the Parish Council (it could not be made in the name of the Cycle Saturday Committee as that is not a legal entity). However the Parish Council Finance Committee referred it to the full Parish Council meeting on the 17th October (by which stage it had become apparent that the grant application was unlikely to be accepted by the awarding body).
At the Parish Council meeting on the 17th October it was decided to support Sherburn Craft and Food Festival, primarily because it has clear potential to achieve profits which will be ploughed back into the local community. At this early stage where it has no income, but expenses which have to be incurred, the Festival needs support or it will not get off the ground. The Parish Council voted that the funds remaining from Sherburn Cycle Saturday should go to the Trust being set up to run Sherburn Craft and Food Festival.
