The Sherburn Gala is held every year in May in the village of Sherburn in Elmet to help raise funds to give back to the local community. The Gala funds the village’s Christmas lights and also helps with various fundraising activities.
Each year the Gala committee seeks a new Sherburn Gala Queen and four sparkly attendants to support the Queen during her big day. The Gala committee approaches the local schools and Athelstan Primary School and Sherburn Hungate Primary School each select two girls to become Gala Attendants.
This year, the Gala Attendants are Ruby Kersley and Ocean Grace Monks from Athelstan Primary and Samantha Taylor and Lilly-Rose Crossley from Sherburn Hungate.
Sherburn High School is responsible for choosing the coveted Sherburn Gala Queen. This year, Sherburn High chose Sherburn pupil, Shannon Bell to be their Gala Queen. The Queen and her attendants will be given gowns to wear on the day and to keep after the big day which have all been donated by the local bridal and occasionwear store, Finery Bridal.
The 2018 Gala Queen, Shannon Bell will attend the Gala Parade and will ride through the village before arriving at the Gala Festival on Eversley Park Field where she will officially open the festival and receive the crown from the previous Gala Queen, Milly Brook.
