Sherburn in Elmet Gala 2022

It was great to welcome back Sherburn Gala for its 45th event on Saturday.

After two years without a Gala due to covid restrictions, the Sherburn in Elmet Gala Association held its 45th Gala in Sherburn in Elmet on the 21st of May 2022.

The village has grown significantly since the last Gala in 2019, and this was a great opportunity to show how wonderful it is to be a resident of the village.

The Sherburn in Elmet Gala included stalls, funfair rides, a parade, performances, competitions and so much more. There were also Gala programmes made which included support from local businesses, competitions with prizes to be won and information about events going on throughout the day.

The Gala theme for 2022 was the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Local shops showed their support as they decorated their windows in the theme of the Jubilee in support of the treasure hunt competition. There were lots of other competitions including a word search, spot the bear and the entry form to the dog competition kindly organised by Holmefield veterinary clinic, another local business.

Here are the winners for the best-decorated windows:

1st Place: Oddfellows Arms

2nd Place: Forget Me Not

3rd Place: C & G Starkey family butchers

The parade had a mix of local schools and clubs who put in lots of hard work to organise how they will be travelling through the village, there were some trucks used which were decorated like the image below.

Thank you to the commitment and hard work of everyone on the Gala committee. If you didn’t manage to make it to this year’s Gala, there will always be next year’s Gala to enjoy.
