A rusty old container in the Petanque Gardens has been given a fantastic new lease of life thanks to talented local artist Bruce Holliday.
The idea for the mural came from conversations between Cllr David Buckle and Bruce, with the suggestion of creating artwork celebrating the history of Sherburn in Elmet. Over the past few months, Bruce has transformed the container into a colourful tribute to our town, spending more than 100 hours bringing the project to life.
The mural features some of Sherburn’s most important heritage, including our farming history, the Fairey Swordfish aircraft built here during the Second World War, our historic church built for King Athelstan, and one of the windmills that once stood in the town.
What was once a tired and rusty container is now a vibrant piece of public art celebrating Sherburn’s history and heritage.
