THE FAIRBURN SINGERS
One again a busy time for the Choir. Following our concert at Selby Abbey at the end of May, we produced a Memory Stick of the professional recording made that night. If you missed the concert, or would like to revisit the evening, then these are available at a cost of £5 or £3 for Choir Patrons – ring Terry on 07769 036103 for your copy. If you don’t have a computer, these can be played on Smart TV’s or, with an adapter (available from Amazon), on iphones, ipads and even on a Kindle Fire.
Our latest concert was at Eversley Park Centre in Sherburn and featured the children of Fairburn Primary School. The children had written a special song – entitled The Fairburn Song, all about the village where they live and go to school, this they sang with gusto. You can listen to a recording of The Fairburn Song on our website at www.fairburnsingers.co.uk on the Events page. It was a heart-warming evening, as well as being one of the hottest of the year, and the children excelled with their enthusiastic performance. This was followed by our Annual Summer concert which also was rather special. We were joined by Eriks Eglitis, a Latvian composer and friend of our MD, Andris. Eriks had set a poem written by Helen DeVoy, one of our choir members, to music.
About the birth of the universe, it calls on us all to respect and look after our planet Earth. This was the
premiere of GAIA’S LAMENT. Again, an excerpt from this can be found on our website.
Our next concert will be in the historic surroundings of Carlton Towers, the real family home of Lord and
Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard. A wonderful venue for an evening of music and enjoyment. The concert
will consist of 2 x 45 minute programmes with an interval of 20 minutes, held in the opulent stateroom
(see poster for more details).
