Courses dedicated to helping our learners earn a national-recognised, GCSE equivalent qualification.
These courses were designed by adults, for adults. Almost every job requires an English & maths Level 2 qualification, and WEA can help them achieve it with no cost. We offer both Level 1 and 2, with options to progress onto another course following completion.

Support Work in Schools & Colleges
Our Support Work in Schools and Colleges (SWISC) course has helped hundreds of learners get the skills and qualifications needed to work in a school setting. With this Level 2 course, learners gain with the essential experience and knowledge necessary to work as a support worker in a range of educational environments including schools and colleges. Many of our learners have continued into employment following completion of the course.

The following courses are fully funded for those who earn under £21,255 or receive a means-tested benefit. If learners do not fit this criteria, they can still enrol by paying a small fee.
Ways to Wellbeing: Mindful Relaxation
This 11-week course is for developers and is suitable for students with some previous experience of relaxation practice. Learners will develop the two key skills that are essential for relaxation to occur: body and breath awareness. Learners will develop their practice of breathing techniques, gentle, mindful movement and embodied meditation.

Helping with Special Education Needs and Disabilities
For learners who help out in a school, community centre or a charity. Special needs education can help learners be inclusive and understand what to expect and how to support all learning needs.
Additionally, it looks great on a CV and is applicable to a wide range of customer-facing jobs.

Introduction to Scratch Coding
For those who want to try something different. This one-off session on 30th September will introduce learners to the key principles of coding (sequencing, loops, abstraction) while creating a simple computer game using Scratch, a free online block-based visual programming language. Learners will develop the skills & competencies to be able to progress further in their own time. No prior experience necessary.
